Michael has experience in all areas of financial planning and has specialised in pre-retirement planning, minimising tax and growing his client's wealth.
Michael has extensive knowledge in the areas of superannuation including SMSF’s, investments, personal insurances and business succession planning.
He has been involved with the Financial Planning Association having served as chairperson of the SA Chapter, promoting the Financial Planning profession and the value of obtaining financial advice.
In April 2014 the FPA bestowed upon Michael a Distinguished Service Award for his services to the Financial Planning profession.
Michael is a family man, married with and 2 wonderful children. An Adelaide boy at heart, he enjoys attending football, cricket and the arts while socialising with friends.

Accountant
Matthew founded Business Initiatives in June 1997. He has a degree in Accountancy from the University of South Australia and was accepted into the Honours program but declined to commence his career.
In 1995 Matthew completed his Chartered Accountancy qualification with Certificates of Merit in Taxation and Ethics (top 5% in Australia). He also has a Diploma in financial Planning.
Matthew is an Associate of the Taxation Institute of Australia, a Registered Tax Agent with the ATO, an accredited MFAA mortgage/finance consultant and an accredited Self-Managed Super Fund Advisor.
He has over 30 years’ experience as an accountant, business and tax advisor and over 13 years’ experience as a registered mortgage broker.
Matthew is a non-executive director on two ASX listed companies – AMX (aerial mapping) and WBE (oil and gas).
As Business Initiatives has grown, Matthew has shifted his focus to a client advisory role and excels in the areas of tax planning and minimisation, business and residential financing, strategy for self-managed superannuation funds, business valuations, business purchases and sales, cash flow budgeting and KPIs, business analysis, planning, coaching and review, systems development and succession and estate planning.
Recreational pursuits include tennis, golf, collecting and restoring classic cars and the noble pursuit of wine tasting and appreciation.
Matthew and his wife have recently established Classic Motor Studio in the Adelaide Hills which buys and sells high quality classic cars, motor bikes and garagenalia.

Financial Planning Paraplanner
Michael began working for Wealth Initiatives in April 2017 as Administration Assistant to the Financial Planner.
Since completing High School he has continued to study and completed a Diploma of Financial Planning in late 2016.
Michael has learned a lot since he started at Wealth Initiatives and has become an integral part of our financial planning team.
Michael looks after our para-planning and office administrative duties.
He enjoys fishing, hiking and spending time with his friends, family and dogs.

Financial Planning Associate
Michelle joined Wealth Initiatives as an intern and has been an Administration Officer since August 2024
She has completed her Bachelor of Business, majoring in Financial Planning at the University of South Australia in July 2025.
Aspiring to become a certified Financial Planner, Michelle is currently working closely with Michael Farmer, assisting with the implementation of critical tasks while managing her administrative responsibilities.
She loves exploring new places through travel, playing games, and above all, spending quality time with her friends and family.
